How to Appear at the Community TV Review

The hearings for the community television review will start on April 26, 2010 and will last about a week. Anyone can participate by videoconference to supplement their written comments from any CRTC office in Canada.

We encourage you to appear. The Commissioners who will rule on these issues often do not read all the written comments. They may rely on summaries by CRTC employees that do not reflect your intentions. They are heavily lobbied by big industry year-round. We strongly encourage you to share your experiences of the value of community TV with them directly. It’s an important opportunity for policy-makers to hear from Canadians in different parts of the country.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO APPEAR:

1. Copy the following text:

I would like to appear in person at the community television hearings in April, 2010 at the CRTC office in (choose: Gatineau, Montreal, Dartmouth, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton, Vancouver). I would like the chance to tell Commissioners in person the value of community TV for me.

2. Click here to access the sample letter.

3. Paste the text at the top of the letter, after the notice of consultation.

4. Personalize the letter by expanding on what community TV has meant to you or your organization as a viewer, volunteer, or community producer. Say where you live, and what has happened to your community channel recently (for example, loss of access by the public, closure, professionalization and/or commercialization of content, increase of content from outside your community).

5. Enter your contact information and send the letter with the automated button.

In early April, the Commission will contact you at the address you supplied and tell you the date, the approximate time of your appearance, and what to bring. If you change your mind or are unable to appear, you can indicate that at that time.
